The Balance Between Acquiring Knowledge and Applying It
When Your Work Isn’t Working
Someone asked me something earlier this week.
Seeking enlightenment from the font of all knowledge (ahem), they posed the following question:
“How can you strike a balance between acquiring knowledge and applying it, to avoid frustration and stagnation?”
I gave it a little thought, and this is what I came up with.

As a content creator, there’s a lot to be said for the acquisition of relevant knowledge.
Whether you’re a writer, videographer, podcaster or photographer, developing a sound background knowledge of your chosen subject is critical to getting good results. For other people to appreciate your work, it is important to demonstrate that you have a solid understanding of the matter at hand, whether from personal experience or data gathered from experts in the field. If your content does not offer value to your consumer, there is little point in creating it in the first place.
But, as with most things in life, there can be too much of a good thing.
